MOMMA CANDY of the WEEK: Baking, Jewelry, and Snakes
We're headed into the season of giving thanks so I'm making sure to stop and smell the pumpkin...er...roses.
It's time to be thankful for all the candy that happened over the last week, even though this is coming kind of late.
So here it is, the MOMMA CANDY of the WEEK!
Let me first start by acknowledging what a glorious week this was for the simple fact that my kids were on fall break. This is one whole week where they don't have to be at school. By 7:45 in the morning. So we kinda slept into the late hour of about 8:30 every day. And it was magical.
They go back to school tomorrow so it'll be back to seven o'clock wake up times starting tomorrow. I guess it's fine because I'll get time to do lame things like going to the gym and grocery shopping but it was a wonderful week of lazy mornings. See you at winter break, lazy mornings!
I'VE BEEN BAKING
It's a hobby. It's a stress reliever. It's a creative outlet. I'm fascinated with the simple task of following directions on a recipe, beating the crap out of the ingredients, putting it all into an oven, and producing something edible. It gets worse around this time of year. Earlier in the week I featured the Apple Wrapper Pie, which lasted all of four hours in my household.
And then I rolled out this bad boy Friday morning.
Let me introduce you. This is Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread. I make this tons of times throughout the season. I bake regular pumpkin bread and just top it with chocolate chips. I never mix the chips in. Sometimes they would sink while baking. So I started topping the bread with them and they created almost a chocolaty layer on top. These chips were Ghirardelli extra large dark chocolate chips and this batch of Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Chips was exceptional because of it.
WHOLE SOUL JEWELRY
I became friends with Lisa from Whole Soul Jewelry last year when our blogs were just getting started. I immediately fell in love with her stuff. She has some really unique pieces, personalized mommy necklaces, and silver spoon jewelry. I loved it so much I started writing a weekly segment on her site about my favorite pieces! In fact, last week I blogged about a Day of the Dead piece I found on her site that I must make sure I own someday. Check it out here!
The husband and I had a date night! We went to Melting Pot and it was, as always, so delicious. So I bet you think that I think I'm a baller because I got to go to Melting Pot, right? Because it's usually crazy expensive? Well, calm yourself. Living Social has had amazing deals for the Melting Pot. One of which was a three course meal for two with two glasses of wine included. All for $45. I'm not sure if that deal is local but when it does get a feature, I'll swoop it up quickly because it's only available every once in a while. And just so you know, Living Social isn't sponsoring this or anything. I just love a good deal! So heads up next time you see Living Social featuring the Melting Pot.
We also stopped at a store and met this little guy in the parking lot.
Yeah. That's a snake. #desertproblems
One more thing about our date night. Klout.com sent me a Klout perk called Blowfish. It's basically a hangover cure. So what's a girl to do if that girl wants to see if it works?
And, yes, it works. Pretty instantly, in fact.
DISNEY ON ICE
This gets a whole special blog post, but, just know, it was a lot of fun.
WALKING DEAD PREMIERE
It's been a long seven months, y'all. But the day finally came. It was the premiere of the Walking Dead. Now if you've been reading for a while, you know that this show is a family show for us. The little ones, of course, do not partake, but mom, dad, and teenager watch it. I can't wait to see what unfolds!
As you can gather, it was a busy, fun filled week with lazy parts and sugary bits mixed in. Ready for some more candy this week!
