Look What I Can Do: Homemade Brownies

I read a lot of blogs. (Shocker)

As I was blog reading one night, I came across a blog called The Pinstriped Penguin.

Then I saw brownies.

And it was love at first sight.

I kind of love brownies. And I could probably finish off an entire pan if I wasn't paying attention. But I don't. Usually.

Anyway, I don't normally study brownie recipes, nor do I seek out homemade brownie recipes. I always buy and make from a box. If it ain't broke, right?

But for some reason I kept reading when I saw the brownie recipe. I was surprised by how simple it was. As a matter of fact, I thought, I have all those ingredients in my pantry right now! Except for cocoa.

I had a Pinterest moment.

So I pinned it!

And I added cocoa to my grocery list.

These are the ingredients:

Right now you're probably thinking: "Damn! This lady likes her store brands!"

Momma likes to save a dollar, mmmkay?

Why, yes, that's cocoa powder on the counter that I didn't clean up. I chose to leave it there because I have very little experience with cocoa powder and didn't realize it's like the glitter of baking. It gets everywhere with very little effort and sticks to everything. I wanted to prove it by showing it to you through my laziness. You're welcome.

I mixed the eggs, oil, vanilla, and sugar first.

Then I added the flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa.

By the way, I used a wooden spoon because I think brownies should always be made with a wooden spoon. That's the way I grew up so wooden spoon it is.

Oh, and I'm not pointing. I'm sampling. Because that's the way I grew up, too. Always licking the bowl and wooden spoon clean sampling.

The only thing I added to this recipe was chocolate chips. Obviously.

Distracting IPAD light to the right.

Oven at 350 degrees for about 20-25 minutes.

Oh, she's so pretty!

Knife marks to check done-ness is the classiest way to go.

And there they are! In all their brownie-fied glory. A mountain of homemade brownie heaven. I did it! And it's not from a box. It was super easy, too.

One more thing...

Fanny from the Pinstriped Penguin nominated me for a Leibster Award! It's kind of like a Get-To-Know-Ya award for newer blogs.

I have to nominate eleven blogs, answer eleven questions, and ask eleven questions, which I'll be doing in my next blog post.

I'm still very honored to be thought of for the Leibster Award.

(I still would have posted your brownie recipe even without the nomination, Fanny!)

Back to the brownies...enjoy the recipe! Maybe ditch the box a time or two and try going homemade. That way you have bragging rights at parties, which is definitely important.

    1. Thanks for stopping by! They are really easy. But now that I have cocoa in my house I'm afraid ill start making other chocolatey things. This could be bad.

  2. Laughing at myself because I DID notice all the store brands.

I warn you, eating homemade brownies is addicting. You may never go back to box mixes again.

    1. Ha ha! I didn't even know I was that bad until I put all the ingredients together. What can I say? I'm loyal to no brand except for the cheapest!
